Dr. Dipak Das Manipulates Red Wine Data

Things that make you go, “Hmmmm.”

MSNBC recently published an article stating that Dr. Dipak Das, a researcher from the University of Connecticut, has been falsifying his research data regarding the health benefits of red wine.

While Dr. Das has received quite a bit of positive attention for  his research over the past several years, officials at the university found that the doctor has falsified, manipulated, or completely fabricated information in more than 140 separate instances.

The bad news? This makes Dr. Das and the University of Connecticut look a little bit silly. The US Office of Research Integrity (we didn’t even know this office existed) is planning to conduct their own investigation of the results of his studies.

The good news? Resveratrol, the compound in red wine believed to give most of the health benefits, has been identified as beneficial in other studies as well. So while no one is yet sure if Dr. Das’s fabrications were enough to alter his findings, there is no reason (at the moment) to believe that the findings also published by other research groups are not accurate.
